(More customer reviews)I've owned some form of point and shoot for many years.My last one recently died, and with a new baby I had been looking for something new.I've never been a huge camera person so I figured even an entry DSLR would have far more features than I'd ever take advantage of, so I looked around at some of the new ones coming out.I leaned towards this camera because I've had good dealings with Olympus in the past, and the 30x zoom intrigued me (though at the time I doubt I could have told you why).

It came a couple of days ago and I've been happy with it out of the gate.The manual is very sparse, and other than a very simple setup guide there is no real information.Fortunately for me I'm not much of a manual reader, but I figure this might be a bit negative for some people.The on-screen help for the camera, however, is actually useful and always lets you know what each of the little icons means.Most of it was fairly self-explanatory.

The LCD is spacious and is very crisp for previewing your photos.There is no traditional viewfinder on it, so to line up your pictures you only have the LCD screen.Again, this is fine by me as my last camera was the same way (though with a smaller LCD that was a bit harder on the eyes).Though I know some people who will be turned off by the lack of a traditional viewfinder.

The 30x zoom is fun to play with, and the macro mode on the camera allows for some really spectacular close ups.I've taken a few shots of my newborn now that really impressed me and far outstriped pictures I've taken in the past.The only negative marks I'd give it is that without the flash its low-light performance is merely okay.However the flash does a great job of illuminating your darker rooms.

The camera itself is nice and light, surprisingly so.It looks like it should be a lot heavier than it is, but I've found it's quite comfortable to hold for extended periods of time, and it was fine around my neck with the included strap.The camera has 2 GB's of internal memory (holds about 500 or so pictures), but also takes SDHC cards.This particular package comes with a 4GB card which holds about 1100 images at full quality.I've found the battery to hold enough charge to get about 250-300 pictures, so you'll want to pick up a second battery if you're going to be out for awhile taking a bunch of images.

Finally I've only briefly played with the video on it.The video shoots at 720p and looked good on my laptop, and also on our HDTV.It's not amazing quality video (and as far as I can tell you are unable to zoom while shooting video), but when it comes to a camera shooting decent HD video clips is more than enough for me.I can get about 30 minutes of video on the 4GB card.

For it's price this is a great camera that is perfect for someone who isn't ready/or doesn't want to take that leap to a more professional camera.I like to think of this one as a highly seeded amateur.
