(More customer reviews)As a geology student, I use this camera to take pictures out in the field.I purchased it specifically for it's ability to geotag photos and for it's longer than average zoom.Some added benefits are it's low light capabilities,it takes decent macros, the sweep panorama feature is amazing, and just for kicks it shoot video in HD.
The intelligent Auto mode is usually spot on.It has worked great for taking pictures out in natural light.You can see examples here: [...]
It also has a manual mode in case the camera isn't doing quite what you would like it too.If you are already familiar with Sony cameras, there isn't much of a learning curve for the manual settings, and it shouldn't be too hard for those who are unfamiliar to figure them out pretty quickly.
I also like the hand held twilight mode and the anti motion blur mode.They actually make some pretty nice looking pictures while allowing you to get bye without a tripod.
The only real negative thing that I have to say about the camera is that the zoom has a lag between the time you press the button and the time it actually start zooming sometimes, so I end up zoomed in a lot farther than I intended and have to back it up.It's honestly not that big of a deal though and I think that it only happens when I try to zoom in directly after the camera is finished processing the previous picture.
The bottom line is that this is a great camera for what it is.If you are looking for a camera that shots RAW and has extensive manual controls, I'd look elsewhere.But if you are looking for a point and shoot with a lot of tricks up its sleeve, this camera will definitely do the job.And, if you are looking for a camera for field work that will geotag images with good accuracy, then this camera is probably the camera for you.
