(More customer reviews)After abundant research on which camera to buy, I finally settled on this one. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!! I scoured for reviews and opinions from both users and electronics industry experts, and this camera lives up to high expectation. I have always been a manual photography person, but it was just getting too damn expensive. We were going on a scenic vacation, so I finally bit the bullet.
Some reviews I read complained about the price (compared to other compact cameras), but it is indeed worth it (depending on your needs). My dream DSLR is out of reach in terms of price (Canon 5D Mark II), but I didn't want to get one of those crappy point and shoot cameras and be disappointed with picture quality and overall features. So the extra money over one of the cheaper point & shoots is absolutely worth it. Conversely, it does come with SO many of the manual features and settings that DSLRs have...and while it is not a DSLR (and you can't change lenses), I think it it much better than any DSLR within it's price bracket.
The features I am most impressed with are the HD video capability and manual settings. The video quality is so astounding, and it is a great size (small enough to fit in my purse and tote around with me). I personally LOVE that it runs on AA batteries. Some people were complaining about this, saying the battery life is limited, but I disagree. I simply made the small investment of 3 sets of 4 rechargeable batteries and a plug-in charger...and I haven't run into any problems. Actually, for how much we have been running around on vacations (zoos, national parks, mountains, waterfalls, gardens, etc), I turn the camera on & off what seems like a millions times a day, and I haven't run out yet. When I get back to our hotel room, I proactively take out the day's batteries to charge and pop in a fresh set. I always carry around extra sets, too. And if you're ever caught in a pinch, you can buy AA batteries nearly anywhere....definitely NOT true of the traditional SLR camera batteries.
I'm not even advanced enough in digital photography to appreciate the CMOS sensor technology or RAW file capability; however, I know it's there when I become an advanced user.
The placement of buttons takes a little getting used to, but since we've been using it extensively all week for vacation...I'm pretty well adjusted to everything by now. It's a bit smaller than a DSLR, but I prefer that since it's small enough to put the cap on and stuff into my purse. I have taken so many breathtaking photos and videos this week, and I couldn't be happier with this camera!!! Highly recommended :)
