(More customer reviews)The price differential between the Dolica Proline Carbonfiber tripod with ball head included and similar competing products was so great that it took me several weeks of skeptical contemplation to finally order the Dolica.Reviews of this product are not abundant to say the least.
Much to my surprise I found the product to be a great value for the price.It is no secret that carbon fiber tripods reside in high dollar territory and the relatively low price of the Dolica product would certainly give one reason to be skeptical about its quality.
The tripod is plenty sturdy for my purposes but then I do not shoot time exposures where minute vibrations might be of concern.I'm primarily an action oriented photographer and wanted light weight and reasonable sturdiness in one package and the Dolica Proline fills the bill admirably.
The ball head supplied with the tripod is very smooth however I found the quick release system to be clunky and not very quick.The plate that fits onto the bottom of the camera is secured by a screw that requires a screwdriver to remove it.I don't usually carry a scredriver in my kit. In addition, the receiver on the top of the ball head has an adjustment screw (knob) that has to be tightened and loosened when removing or installing a different camera, etc.This process is relatively slow compared to the system that I have been using.Quickness is very important to me so I fell back to using my old ball head with its quick release system.Even so, this is still a very nice ball head and would serve some photographers extremely well.
The haviest equipment that I have mounted and used on this tripod is a Nikon D200 with a Nikon 80-400mm VR zoom lense attached. This camera and lense combination is pretty heavy and the tripod handles it just fine.Due to the light weight of the tripod I have not found it burdensome to pack around for a day of shooting.There is a very useful bubble level on it and the quick release levers on the legs make it possible to get set up and level in a rapid fashion.
This tripod is very useful and I like it a lot.It's a very good value even though the ball head didn't meet my expectations.
