Regarding the negative review here, if you don't understand the model numbers, you have no business buying a $300+ tripod.

Now, this is a NICE tripod. The MF4 has a smaller "last" leg than the MF3, but they are strong. Adorama shipped me a floor model instead of a new one, so I can tell you that it has held up well to customer prodding!

One thing... The threads on this one are 3/8", not your normal 1/4" that your camera takes. This shouldn't be a surprise, as the tripod doesn't come with a head. I used Manfrotto's 486RC2, which is very appropriate for this tripod. I got this tripod for it's small size, and it fits perfectly in my Naneu Pro K2L's tripod restraint system.

The legs don't rotate, and have 6 sides for amazing strength. The material is (apparently) magnesium fiber, and while the 4 section is heavier than the 3 (MF3) due to more hardware, it makes up for it by being only 18: from the tips of the feet to the top of the threads. Yes, I measured it!

This small size is why I bought this. A friend had an MF3, and while more stable ("last" leg larger in diameter), it was about 5" longer. You can't carry on a plane a tripod longer than this without causing trouble.

Amazon's picture attachments are flaky, but I'll try to add a picture of the tripod inside that Naneu bag...

Oh, and this tripod is the "old" style, meaning that you need to unscrew the center column to get it into the horizontal position. The new ones are slotted with a mechanism that avoids this. I kind of like this style, as you can actually remove the center column.

Product Description:
A four-section version of the 190MF3, the 190MF4 is more compact for traveling and just a few inches shorter in height when fully extended. It is an ideal tripod to fit into a backpack. Weighing in at 3.5lbs, the 190MF4 provides professional photographers with a tripod that's light, compact, simple to use, strong, and extremely versatile to position.Without compromising on stability or rigidity of the tripod, Manfrotto engineers reduced the weight of the 190MF4 by utilizing carbon fiber legs with quick action lever locks in magnesium and resin. In addition, they incorporated the patended design of the 3001PRO series top spider which offers four leg angle settings, and converts the center column into a lateral arm.The center column itself is of the latest generation of aluminum and resin materials. The low-angle adapter forms the top section of the center column and is easily detached by simply unscrewing the knob at the bottom of the column. This enables the head to be left mounted on the center column when switching between low-angle and normal shooting positions.
