The tripod was reasonably solid, but it weighed nearly as much as my Olympus Evolt E-3 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with Mechanical Image Stabilization (Body Only), Olympus 300mm f/2.8 Super Telephoto ED Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras, Olympus Zuiko EC-20 2x Teleconverter for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras and a battery pack combined. Even with the usual foam pipe insulation duct-taped to the leg, I usually had bruises on my shoulder from schlepping the thing around. And even with the riser extended, I had to hunch over to shoot.

The Gitzo GT2542L is a revelation. It weighs about a third what my old tripod does. It's considerably more solid. The legs deploy as fast or faster, with no risk of blood blisters from poorly designed snap locks. And the camera is at eye level.

Folks, if you do nature photography and haul a big lens around in the field, this tripod can change your life. Very highly recommended.
