Putting the soft boxes together was a royal pain! There were no instructions on how to assemble the softboxes. I watched the whole DVD, and checked the box for paperwork. There was one sheet that had basic instructions about the strobes themselves, but nothing about the softboxes.

I looked on-line and found the following video [...]. Mine did not just pop together like the one in the video. I finally had to ask my husband to help, and even with all of his muscle it was quite hard. I later found this instruction set that may have been a little bit more helpful [...].

The DVD is worth watching, it has basic information on camera settings and white balance. If you already know how to shoot in manual, skip this section. The sections I found more interesting were with professional photographers describing the set up of the strobes. One section described how to set your camera using a large grey card instead of a light meter. I thought that was interesting and logical.

When you are unpacking, to get the safety protector off the strobe, pull the silver button back then turn the head cover. Don't touch the actual strobe bulb as the oils from your hand can damage it.

The light stands are quite sturdy and easy to use. Once the softboxes are assembled, they are fine. But I don't see disassembling them on a regular basis and carrying them around in the provided case given how hard they are to assemble.

The strobes themselves work just fine. The strobes can be set to beep so you know when they have recycled and are ready to shot again. They have the ability to be adjusted to ? to full power and everything in between. They can also be set to work on a sync cord, or as in slave mode.

I like the modeling lamps. In a dark room they help you target what the strobe will illuminate. The modeling lamps do not come on if the strobes themselves are not turned on.

It also comes with a third light, a set of barn doors, and gels to be used with a backdrop (backdrop not included).

I haven't shot with strobes in years. I had fallen into the "available light" crowd. But while at Photoshop World, I took a couple of classes and saw several demonstrations and decided to jump back into the "any light that's available is available light crowd."
